Hanshin's Kyuji Fujikawa Sets New Mound Appearances Record
Hanshin Tigers relief pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa tied the NPB record for most appearances in a season during the September 28th game against the Giants at Koshien Stadium, with his 78th mound appearance of the season. Fujikawa tied the record set in 1961 by Kazuhisa Inao of the Nishitetsu Lions, which was tied in 2001 by Tsuyoshi Kikuchihara of the Hiroshima Carp (currently with Orix). Then, during the September 29th game against the Giants at Koshien Stadium, Fujjikawa made another appearance, breaking the record, in his 79th appearance of the season. Fujikawa was outstanding this season. I hope he is alright next year, too.
