Jiro Kuji?
I was trying to find out about Japanese Hall of Famer Jiro Kuji. I read somewhere he died on the baseball field; what were the details?

Citing "Japanese Baseball Superstars" by Rob Fitts and Gary Engel (p. 117):

"He was killed in the 1939 National Intercity Tournament at Sapporo Stadium by an errant pickoff throw. While Kuji was at bat, the runner on second base took a very large lead. After a pitch, instead of returning the ball to the pitcher, the catcher attempted a throw to second to catch the runner off base. Unfortunately, the thrown ball hit batter Kuji in the back of the head. He died two days later as a result of internal bleeding."
