2007 NPB Awards

2007 NPB Awards
Nippon Ham Fighters pitcher Yu Darvish and Yomiuri Giants third baseman Michihiro Ogasawara were named MVP's.

Rookie of the Years awards went to Hanshin pitcher Keiji Uezono and Rakuten pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.

Darvish went 15-5 with a 1.82 ERA in 26 games, compiling a low 0.83 WHIP. See this great article that Deanna put together on why Darvish deserved the Sawamura Award. Ogasawara batted .313/.363/.539 with 31 HRs and 88 RBI in 142 games and 566 ABs.

Overall, I have no real problem with the PL MVP, as I said earlier that was pretty much wrapped up by Darvish, though I thought fellow Yomiuri teammate Yoshinobu Takahashi was ripped off of a MVP.

Uezono went 8-5 with a 2.42 ERA in 17 games. Tanaka went 11-7 with a 3.82 ERA in 28 games.

Yeah, I thought Yoshinobu Takahashi should have been the MVP, too. The top five vote-getters for MVP were all Giants, of course.

They also released the Best Nine lists yesterday, so here they are:

PL Best Nine:
P Yu Darvish, Fighters
C Tomoya Satozaki, Marines
1B Alex Cabrera, Lions
2B Kensuke Tanaka, Fighters
3B Greg LaRocca, Buffaloes
SS Tsuyoshi Nishioka, Marines
OF Atsunori Inaba, Fighters
OF Hichori Morimoto, Fighters
OF Naoyuki Ohmura, Hawks
DH Takeshi Yamasaki, Eagles

Every team represented! How often does THAT happen?

CL Best Nine:
P Hisanori Takahashi, Giants
C Shinnosuke Abe, Giants
1B Tyrone Woods, Dragons
2B Hiroyasu Tanaka, Swallows
3B Michihiro Ogasawara, Giants
SS Hirokazu Ibata, Dragons
OF Norichika Aoki, Swallows
OF Alex Ramirez, Swallows
OF Yoshinobu Takahashi, Giants

I love how the best nine are comprised of people from the top team, the bottom team, and the Japan Series champions.

Just some quick corrections, as the Daily Yomiuri only broke Best Nine's won by how many they won in the respective leagues only.

Michihiro Ogasawara (6)
Greg LaRocca (2)
Takeshi Yamasaki (2)
