Matsui Signs Highest Contract
The Yomiuri Giants gave their star #4 batter two choices:

1. 5 years for a total of 50-oku yen
2. 1 year for 6.1-oku yen

Godzilla, looking to become a free agent at the end of this year and wreck havok on Major League soil, chose option #2. The 610,000,000 salary surpasses Ichiro's 5.3-oku yen year 2000 salary to become the higest paid player ever in Japan.
