Current Tiger Tails

Recently I haven't been able to post game reviews and this situation is likely to continue for the most part. I'm just too busy at the moment. I will try and post updates and if I can the a full game review from time to time. So if we look at the state of the Tigers at the moment what do we see? Tigers are currently second with Carp out in front. Don't expect this situation to last though - Carp have an uncanny ability to fade - more so than the Tigers. The evil empire is third.
As to Tigers performance pitching is still a concern though the relief is beginning to settle down. Oh works better with Tsuruoka and has a very mean inside rising fastball which gets outs. Fujii is still seriously inadequate but Tsuruoka has shown signs of significant improvement.
Batting is the standout for Tigers at the moment. Murton is going through a quiet patch at the moment but Gomez is scoring steadily and importantly hitting for runs not power. Other standouts are Uemoto and Yamato with the latter being very effective when our idiot manager doesn't ask him to bunt. With a batter who is driving in runs the last thing you want to do is ask for a bunt. Toritani is also beginning to wake up and that can only be a positive thing.
Starting pitching though is still a worry but we have seen a series of sensible pitching counts with no one exceeding 108 pitches.
Tigers first series against the Carp wasn't so wonderful though - played at Mazda Stadium the first game was hopeful with Tigers taking the game 8-2. Once Fujii was brought back as catcher Tigers lost the next two games 3-1 and 8-2 to give the Carp the series. Back to Koshien and the second series against the Swallows. This was good for the Tigers who swept the Swallows but had to work hard to do so. Incidentally, Tigers have won their last eight games at Koshien and currently have an 8-9 record at home. The away games are the concern and they have yet to win an away series. Despite winning Tigers did give up a lot of runs and had to fight back numerous times. It bears out the impression that the batting is strong but the pitching and catching not so well founded. Results in the Swallows series were: 4-2; 7-5, 8-7. The Tigers situation is much improved from the start of the season but it is still early days.
