Pedraza First Foreign Registered Player to 100 Saves
Daiei's ace closer, Rodney Pedraza, reached his career 100th save yesterday (4/29) afternoon at Chiba Marine Stadium as he held on to a one run lead in the bottom of the 9th in Daiei's 5-4 victory. Pedraza set the side down in order with three fly balls (to right, first, and left) for his 4th save of the young season. Pedraza commented, "Three plus years is a long time, but I've done well to get this far. I'll [continue] with a renewed effort." (Translation of translation. I'm sure what he said wasn't that exactly, but something close.)

Pedraza became just the 11th player to reach the 100 save plateau. While Chunichi's Genji Kaku (born in Taiwan) was really the first foreigner to reach 100 saves, Kaku played as a Japanese as, like Taihoh, he was signed from either Japanese college or the local Industrial Leagues (I don't recall which right now). Kaku's 10th place standing is 116 saves, so, barring injury, Pedraza has a real shot at reaching the top ten this season.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
