M. Kobayashi Breaks Own PL Record

M. Kobayashi Breaks Own PL Record
In defeating Nippon Ham last night (July 21) at Tokyo Dome, Chiba Lotte's ace closer, Masahide Kobayashi, saved his 13th game in a row, breaking his own Pacific League record of 12 consecutive saves.

Breaking his own record didn't seem to impress Kobayashi that much. And when asked about the possibility of reaching/breaking Sasaki's NPB 22 consecutive saves, Kobayashi humbly replied, "the level is different."

For those with a numbers fixation, not only does Sasaki wear number 22 (which is now worn by Yuji Yoshimi, who is leading the Bay Stars in wins at the moment) and hold the record for consecutive saves at 22, but the guy who will pass him for tops on the all time saves list this season, Shingo Takatsu of the Yakult Swallows, wears #22.
