Karim Garcia Hits 3 HR's in 2 Consecutive Games
Orix Buffaloes player Karim Garcia became the first player in NPB history to hit three home runs in a game, for two consecutive games. He hit three home runs during the August 10th game against Rakuten, and then three more home runs during the August 11th game, also against Rakuten. Karim also becomes the 10th player to have two 3 homer games in the same season. [Full Story - Sankei Sports, in Japanese (with pictures)].

Mr. Garcia added another bit to the record books during his home run binge, when he became the first player in NPB history to hit 8 home runs over 4 games, from August 10-13th. The previous record for 8 home runs was 5 games, by Tyrone Woods (Chunichi) earlier this year, John Henry Scott (Yakult) in 1979, and Warren Cromartie (Yomiuri) in 1984.

Karim's always been a player with power - his 52 RBI in 51 games while with Cleveland in 2002 attest to that - but he was only to show flashes of it. So this might be a start of something really good for his time in Japan.

Karim Garcia's power ability has been there, just hidden. In 2002, he hit 16 home runs. In his minor league career he hit 182 home runs. As a Minor League Player of the Year with the Dodgers his talent was starting to shine as he had gotten a chance to play regularly which he'd never really gotten in the past. Karim Garcia's record of 6 home runs in two consecutive games was one shy of the all-professional baseball record of 7 hit by Bob Seeds in 1938 playing for Newark against Buffalo of the International League. Anyway, what he did is amazing.

The Latino Bambino has been teasing teams like this his entire career. Still, 8 homers in 4 games is rather impressive.
