First Central League 0-0 Tie in 29 Years

First Central League 0-0 Tie in 29 Years
Here's one I didn't hear mentioned when I watched the Yakult vs. BayStars game on August 16th. It appears that the game, ended in a 0-0 tie, was the first extra inning 0-0 tie in the Central League since Hanshin played Taiyo (now Yokohama) to a 0-0 draw after 14 innings on September 11, 1972. As it happens, that was the second 0-0 tie in the Central League that year, with Hiroshima and Chunichi battling it out 15 inning on May 9th with nothing to show for it.

The last 0-0 tie in Japan was last year between Nippon Ham and Lotte on June 18. The main reason that the Central League has gone so long since having a long, drawn out tie is because the Central League has been calling it quits after 15 innings for so long. This year they adjusted to the same 12 innings of the Pacific League. (I liked the 15 inning rule better.)

This was the game that the umpire blew a call which eventually cost Yokohama a run and got Mori-kantoku ejected for the first time in his career (player or manager).
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
