Maeda's Quest for 2,000 Hits
Carp's Maeda has just hit his 1,999th hit in the game against Dragons at Hiroshima Shimin Kyujo on August 31, 2007. Unless the game goes into extra innings, expect his 2,000th career hit in the next game of the series tomorrow.

He finally got it in the 8th inning during Carp's 14-7 victory over the Dragons on September 1, 2007.

He becomes the 38th person to achieve the feat of 2,000 career hits in Japan.

I have to wonder what kind of career Maeda would've had if he didn't have those achilles tendon problems. Even with the injuries, his career numbers are very impressive. I think I saw a video somewhere that mentioned Maeda being one of Ichiro's favorite players of the modern era.
