College National Team?

College National Team?
Tell me about the Japanese team which will host the USA Baseball national team later this week. Where typically do the players come from? Are they indeed the best college players or have other factors played a part in their selection?

Gen has a lot of information on the College National Team at Yakyu Baka.

The Tokyo area teams (Tokyo Big 6 and Toto Leagues) tend to contribute the most to the team. However, since the All Japan University Baseball Championships had just been played last month, numerous deserving players from other colleges got some time in the spotlight and were recruited for the team.

Any selection of players for an all star team is going to miss some excellent, deserving players. That may happen because of popularity bias (selecting a lot of Tokyo Big 6 players) or because there are deserving players in some remote regions that are on teams that don't get too far in their respective regional tournaments, thus don't get much attention. But no matter how some better players get missed, it's rare that anyone makes the team that is undeserving.
