Yeah, I don't buy these rumors. Although he is declining, the Red Sox still have an everyday DH in Ortiz. Additionally, they are pushing hard to keep Jason Bay, which would cover left field. Ortiz and Matsui both bat left, so they wouldn't be platooning at DH. I think this rumor has gotten a lot of attention just because it involves the Red Sox wanting a Yankees player.
Personally, I see Matsui staying with the Yankees. It's either him or Damon that will go. While Matsui is willing to take a pay cut, Damon is represented by Scott Boras, who will demand a multi-year deal for an aging player.
