Kevin Millar Biography
Kevin Millar never played a game in Japan, but was involved with a complicated deal that ended with him joining the Boston Red Sox.

In 2002, the Florida Marlins of Major League Baseball sold Millar's contract to the Chunichi Dragons. However, since Millar technically was on waivers, he had to clear the necessary channels to gain free agency, thus allowing him to join Chunichi. However, Boston blocked the deal by claiming Millar off of waivers, and thus broke an unwritten rule and setting a new precedent for MLB players going to Japan.

The result was money changing hands, with the Red Sox getting Millar for the 2003 season, the Marlins reimbursing Chunichi for the money they paid to get Millar, and the Red Sox paying the Marlins the money they used to pay Chunichi.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
