Unofficial Matsuzaka Report

Unofficial Matsuzaka Report
Well, I attended the game today (granted as a Royals fan, so I'll try to be as unbiased as possible). Matsuzaka struggled ever so slightly in the 1st inning, was virtually untouchable in inning 2-5, and a little shaky in the 6th. I think he ended up striking out 10, allowing 1 run on 6 hits in 7 innings.

(Conversely, 23 year-old Zack Greinke - or "Grien-K" as one sign said - nearly matched Matsuzaka pitching 7 innings, striking out 8 and giving up 2 runs (1 earned) - he reminds me a little of Matsuzaka.)

People on the radio were talking about how "well Matsuzaka did for his first MLB game." Knowing his past, I don't think pitching in front of 23,000 people (half full) against a mostly inexperienced lineup is anything close to the pressure of pitching a no-hitter in front of 50,000 when he was 18. We'll have to see how he does in Yankee stadium.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
