Hideki Matsui Putting Up Some Numbers
Igawa's struggles may have taken some of the focus off of Hideki Matsui, but he is quietly having a good year. Going into tonight's action he is hitting .280, 21 doubles, 14 HRs, and 56 RBIs while playing in 78 games. In the last few years he's quickly become one of my favorite players.

From the Yankees website.

Matsui had a fantastic day in the Yankees' 21-4 rout of Tampa Bay. He was 5 for 6 with his 17th home run and two RBIs giving him 63 for the year.

Indeed, the amazing Matsui is sometimes overlooked in the Yankees hitting pantheon, simply because he is so very disciplined and steadily productive on an everyday, no-nonsense fashion (I love his batting ritual, gazing up and down at the bat and then a quick shrug of the shoulders - look for it!). He's also very quiet and dignified off the field. He seems to be having the season of his life this year.

Matsui hit 2 home runs in last night's game (July 31st). He now has 21 on the year with 74 RBIs. He is hitting .293.
