Tono goes distance for Giants

by Rob Smaal (Jul 15, 2009)

Shun Tono tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout as the Yomiuri Giants padded their lead atop the Central League with a 4-0 victory over the Yakult Swallows in Fukushima on Tuesday.

Tono (4-4) struck out six in his 113-pitch outing and walked just one batter all night.

Alex Ramirez was credited with an RBI after drawing a bases-loaded walk in the first inning from Yakult starter Kyohei Muranaka (0-2), who struggled with his control. Masakuni Odajima drove in a run for Yomiuri and the other runs scored on a wild pitch by Muranaka and a double-play groundout by Yoshiyuki Kamei.

Michihiro Ogasawara was 3-for-3 for the Giants and he was also hit by a pitch.

Muranaka allowed four runs on seven hits through six innings. He walked three and hit two batters with pitches.
