Japanese Bermanisms

Japanese Bermanisms
I live in the States and I saw Chris Berman on ESPN last night. I wasn't playing close attention, but he did give former Hiroshima Carp and current Dodger, Hiroki Kuroda, a "Bermanism." I am hoping someone else heard it. It didn't make sense to me at all. It was something like Hiroki "my car" Kuroda. Definitely something about a car, but I just couldn't figure out what he said or why it was supposed to be clever.

Anyone else catch this? It certainly was no Bert "be home" Blyleven.

I think that he was referring to the Toyota Corolla. If you're not familiar with this car, try a Google search.

Corolla could be it, but I thought it was a takeoff of "My Sharona" by The Knack, and probably a slight mispronunciation of Kuroda to make it sound more like Car-oda: muh-muh-muh-muh-Myyyy Kuh-roda.

Back when I was in the States I used to love listening to Chris Berman and Stuart Scott every morning on Sports Center. Here's some Japanese Bermanisms that either I came up with, or I've heard from other people:
  • Tuffy "take me home country" Rhodes
  • Greg "Livin' la vi" LaRoca
  • Kazuyoshi "look out here comes a big" Tatsunami
  • Roberto "I dream of" Petagine
  • Jeremy "secretary of state commander" Powell
  • Tyrone "I can hit the ball as far as Tiger" Woods
  • Andy "pull back the" Sheets
Most of them are for foreign players, but anybody have any others they'd like to share?

I saw "My Kuroda" as a title after Kuroda's first victory. It was on, I think. I guess it could mean that Japanese imports are reliable?

I think Berman is playing off the last syllable of Hiroki - "ki" as "key my car."

(This means to vandalize a car with your keys for those unfamiliar with American slang idioms.)
