Discussion in the NPB News forum
Rakuten Signs Short
The Rakuten Eagles signed infielder Rick Short. Short batted .383 with 11 HR and 70 RBI in AAA New Orleans this past year. [Minor League Stats] Short made his major league debut in 2005, and batted .400 (6-15) with 2 HR and 4 RBI. [Japan Ball Article]

This is Short's second time in Japan. Short previously played with the Chiba Lotte Marines in 2003, batting .303 with 12 HR and 58 RBI.

I can't figure out why a major league team didn't pursue Short. He's medicore defensively, but he'd make a great AL role player (200-300 ABs).
