Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Japan Baseball Draft?
When is the draft? Are Tanaka and Saitoh going to be drafted? What about Hashimoto? I saw them play in Los Angeles last month. Wow, what players.

The draft of high school players was held last month. Here are the results of the 2007 High School Draft. In answer to your question, Tanaka was drafted by the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles; Saitoh sat out the draft, stating that he was going to pursue college studies and baseball; and Hashimoto was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers.

The Amateur Draft will be held in November.

Saitoh decided to go for his original goal - to graduate from Waseda High School and go straight into Waseda University. And he said he hopes to use this four years in university to prepare himself for the pro leagues which was his dream since his youth.

The Tigers are high on Hashimoto, the best catcher in this draft, and Hashimoto has stated his desire to learn from Tiger's Yano before Yano retires.
