Kazuo Matsui - Single Short of Cycle

Kazuo Matsui - Single Short of Cycle
Hopefully everyone is watching the resurgence of Kazuo Matsui. I am happy for the guy who took extreme abuse in New York. Matsui almost hit for the cycle today, it would have been the first time in MLB history that a player hit for the cycle during a playoff game. Oh yeah, as a big side note he hit a grand slam to help the Rockies take a 6-3 lead in the 4th.

Additionally, he started the rally in the bottom of the 13th inning against San Diego which got Colorado into the playoffs.

After his performance today, I am sure that the Rockies will offer him $$$ to re-sign.

Go Matsui!

Back injuries and New York pressure aside, the biggest reason for Matsui's success this year has been his focus on being the type of player he needs to be in MLB - a guy who plays good defense, hits for average, worries about OBP at the top of the order, and doesn't concern himself with trying to hit for power - which he will never do in MLB.
